As more and more boats take advantage of the power generated by asymmetrical spinnakers and apparent wind sailing, the performance requirements for traditional spinnaker cloth have changed. Increased pressure from apparent wind angles and the uneven loading between the luff and leech sections of the kite require greater cloth stability and lower warp stretch for optimal flying shapes and performance. For these applications, Contender has developed the Powerkote range of spinnaker fabrics featuring a firmer finish for lower bias and thread-line stretch. Based on the proven Superkote constructions, our new solvent based Powerkote coating cures to a harder finish with excellent durability and adhesion without compromising tear resistance.
Powerkote’s increased bias stability helps keep the A-sail’s designed shape as the boat drives up and down through waves and apparent wind angle changes. The lower warp stretch helps keep the leading edge of the kite projected in front of the boat for improved power and control. The powerkote range includes seven weights that best suit the demands of most sport boat classes and high performance racing yachts. Like Superkote, The Powerkote range is designed to work together as a compatible family of fabrics so sails can be engineered for the most efficient strength to weight constructions.
