Let me begin by saying that my hope is that everyone reading this is well and healthy.
Our activities in the marine industry are so much more than just a business! Contender’s philosophy has always been that we develop sailcloth developed by sailors and sold to sailmakers knowing the needs of our clients.
This pandemic has turned people’s lives upside down. We have faced a lot of challenges as an industry as well as our company during the last 45 years and came out remarkable strong out of these challenges. But the lessons and experiences we gained over that time have really prepared us for the challenges we are faced with today.
As of the 1st of February 2019 we own the finishing plant in Germany, as we bought the KBC unit who produced our sailcloth according to our specifications for 35 years. Through this we even have more control over the end product, both for sailcloth as well for our technical fabrics!
Further we are delighted to inform you that as of this month Sander Jorissen will join Contender Sailcloth.
Sander is a graduate of Delft Technical University. In the years after his graduation he worked not only as an engineer but gradually became more involved in sales and ended up by owning his own company in technical engineering, employing 33 people. Sander recently sold his company and has now decided to join the team at Contender.
Sander is a devoted yachtsman with several ocean crossings under his belt but also races Star, the Finn and a local class called the Pampus here in Holland.
Sander’s expertise in mechanical engineering will be used to streamline our finishing plant as a first assignment, as we plan to upgrade and modernize the plant to improve quality and efficienty.
Sander will work form our Mijdrecht office but will frequently visiting our finishing plant.
As you can see Contender is moving forward and investing in the future!
May you have fair winds and stay save!
